Interesting point about Henry Jenkins blog

In Henry Jenkins Blog “The Revenge of the Origami Unicorn: http://henryjenkins.org/2009/12” Jenkins quotes an un-named film maker

"When I first started you would pitch a story because without a good story… now, you pitch a world because a world can support multiple characters and multiple stories across multiple media." This describes how transmedia story telling is changing the entertainment business. How there is more emphasis on world building than telling a good story.

Defining Transmedia storytelling

Transmedia story telling is self-explanatory. Transmedia or crossmedia means spanning deferent media like film, comic and game. Therefore, transmedia story telling is telling a story through more than one medium.

A good example of this is the Star Wars franchise. The franchise started with the 1977 film. The Star Wars universe has now expanded to six films, merchandise, cartoons, novels, comics and digital games.

Lecture - Chris Goodswen, 3D Character Artist

The Lecture from Chris Goodswen was very informative and motivational. It was full of useful information about life within the game industry, and gave incite into the things and situations that are likely to be experienced.

Goodswen informed the group on how he works and develops ideas. Once useful tip on Character design that I intend to use is to draw several two minuet thumbnail sketches of a character to develop different antistatic ideas. This allows you to choose the best thumbnail and develop from that.

After designing a character using traditional materials, he models the character in Z Brush and does the topology after the modeling, I haven’t considered doing this but it seems a more ordered approach that modeling and considering the topology at the same time.

Goodswen also changed my view on the games industry and cleared up misconceptions I had surrounding it.
I assumed all game studios are about cutting edge technology and use the best software to enable them to be a competitor in the industry.
Goodwin informed the group that older versions of software like Maya and Photoshop might be used, as that is how the creative production line is set up. It’s not always economically viable to install the most resent software.
